Medziphema, Nagaland Sep 4: Nagaland University, the only Central University in the State, inaugurated six new academic, research, agricultural and student-oriented facilities at its School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema Campus, on Thursday (3rd September 2026).
The facilities were inaugurated by Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University, in the presence of faculty members, administrative officials, staff and students of the University.
The newly-inaugurated facilities include two Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) Units under the Departments of Horticulture and Livestock Production and Management (LPM), a Modern Piggery Project, Feed Production Units at Medziphema and Kohima Campuses, a Horticulture Research Laboratory, Naga Morung, and the Sports Complex.
The Feed Production Unit at the Kohima Campus was inaugurated virtually, while the facilities at Medziphema Campus were inaugurated during the programme.
Addressing the inauguration, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University, expressed his appreciation for the development of the new facilities and outlined the University's aspirations for strengthening research and academic excellence.
Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik added, “I am looking forward to more active research, innovation and publications from our faculty and researchers. We are also looking forward to achieving top rankings for the School of Agriculture as well as for Nagaland University as a whole. I extend my best wishes to everyone on this auspicious occasion.”
The newly established facilities are expected to provide students and researchers with improved opportunities for hands-on learning, experimentation, skill development and research in agriculture and allied areas. The Modern Piggery Project and Feed Production Units, in particular, are expected to support practical training and promote scientific approaches to livestock production and feed management.
The facilities also reinforce the University's efforts to bridge the gap between classroom learning and field-based application, while creating greater opportunities for research, innovation and extension activities.
The Naga Morung and Sports Complex further add to the University's efforts towards preserving cultural identity and promoting the overall development and well-being of students.
The inauguration of 6 new facilities marked another step in Nagaland University's ongoing efforts to strengthen the infrastructure of its campuses and also create a more conducive environment for teaching, research, innovation, extension and student development.
